Ian Tang

Ian Tang, TMT Analyst

Why did you decide to join Capstone?

After I received my master’s degree in public policy, I was looking to get into the policy space in DC. I didn’t know that a firm like Capstone existed, and I thought it was the perfect fit for my passion for policy research. It was very clear in the interview process that Capstone is a place where people lead with ideas, and I wanted to work with a company that prided itself on its ideas and provided a space to test hypotheses.

What does the average day look like for you?

I usually start my day meeting with our sales team and the firm to discuss TMT ideas that interest our clients. After that, I make sure I am up to date with the day’s TMT policy news by reading legislative updates on key issues. I’m often on the phone with key stakeholders in the TMT space, and I use the information I gather from those conversations to write research notes.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I love being able to speak with clients and hearing their responses to the ideas we come out with – whether they agree or disagree with our theses. Technology overlaps with everything, and as a member of the TMT team, I’m in a unique position to collaborate with other Capstone teams and hear diverse viewpoints, which leads to an improved final outcome.
