Mathew is a Managing Director and serves as the Head of Capstone’s European office. He joined Capstone in 2016 and leads the London-based sector teams covering pan-European Financial Services, Business Services and Technology. Mathew has overseen several client projects, providing advice and transaction-related regulatory and policy due diligence for global private equity firms and corporate clients. At Capstone, he has helped investors and corporates navigate policy-related challenges and identify strategic opportunities generated by regulatory and policy trends. Additionally, Mathew leads a London-based investment research team focused on creating actionable policy-driven investment ideas for our capital markets clients (long-only and hedge funds) that invest in UK and European equity or credit.
Prior to joining Capstone, he spent 10 years as an equity analyst focused on the financial services sector. Mathew spent almost six years as a senior banks analyst and trader at Abaco Asset Management LLP, a market-neutral hedge fund dedicated to investing in the financial sector that had a European bias and consisted of long/short equity positions. Previously, Mathew gained four years of experience in equity research on the sell-side as a banks analyst at Keefe, Bruyette & Woods Ltd. (KBW), a boutique investment bank specializing in the financial services sector, where he mainly covered Southern European banks.
Mathew earned a dual honours degree in economics and history from Bristol University. He lives in London.
