Sebastiaan Bierens


Sebastiaan joined Capstone in 2016 and is an analyst on the London financial services team. At Capstone, Sebastiaan covers a wide range of topics, including international, regional and domestic tax policy initiatives (including BEPS/ATAD/CCCTB), the European fund industry (AIFMD/UCITS), the review of the European insurance (Solvency II), capital requirements (CRR/CRD IV) and resolution framework (BRRD/SRM) and the Financial Conduct Authority’s work on high cost credit. Prior to joining Capstone, he spent his career working at the Bank of England’s Prudential Regulation Authority, where he focused on several aspects of the UK’s leverage ratio and the capital adequacy framework. During his time at the BoE, he represented the UK in the European Banking Authority’s technical subgroup on own funds. He also worked at the London School of Economics as a research assistant on several topics relating to financial law and regulation. Sebastiaan holds a Masters of Law in European and International Law from the Catholic University of Leuven and a Masters of Law in Banking Law and Financial Regulation from the London School of Economics. He currently lives in London.
