Grace Totman, Co-Head of Capstone’s Healthcare Team

While studying healthcare policy and economics at Georgetown University, Grace realized just how impactful policy could be for industry and decided to start her career in the healthcare consulting space. She later joined the Capstone team as an analyst focused primarily on Medicare Advantage and health insurance policy. Within a short time, Grace realized that Capstone is a true meritocracy, where hard work and dedication are rewarded. On the back of this merit, Grace is now the Co-Head of Capstone’s Healthcare practice, where she works alongside Hunter Hammond to lead a team of more than 10 analysts in covering the entire healthcare universe.

Grace and the healthcare team are strongly motivated by competition. “As we face intense competition, we are only able to differentiate ourselves by the quality and depth of the product delivered,” she says. This competition necessitates that each project is better than the last, a goal that drives every decision the healthcare team makes. This means going above and beyond for clients, with Grace once going as far as to donate plasma for a project.

Grace’s next goal is expanding the Healthcare team globally, an effort that has already begun with work in Europe and Asia in the fertility and pharma spaces. Despite appearances, she believes there are underappreciated commonalities between the US and European healthcare markets that give Capstone an edge in understanding each market.

Her favorite part of working at Capstone is the connections she has made and the people. “We get to sit in between policymakers, investors, and individuals in industry, which gives us such a unique perspective,” Grace says. The people at Capstone are also a highlight. Grace enjoys working alongside individuals who are just as nerdy and truly love the work they do. One fun fact, her dog, Marvin, won Capstone’s Best Costume Challenge at Halloween dressed as the Sopranos’ Christopher Moltisanti.
