Sebastiaan Bierens

Sebastiaan joined Capstone in 2016 and is an analyst on the London financial services team.  At Capstone, Sebastiaan covers a wide range of topics, including review of the capital requirements directive (CRD) IV package, European markets and infrastructure regulation (EMIR), the recast markets in financial instruments directive (MiFID II), securitization, IFRS 9 and Regtech.  Prior to joining Capstone, he spent his career working at the Bank of England's (BoE) Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA), where he focused on several aspects of the UK's leverage ratio and the capital adequacy framework, primarily on hybrid capital instruments.  During his time at the BoE, he represented the UK in the European Banking Authority's technical subgroup on own funds, where he monitored the quality of capital instruments issued by European banks and helped review parts of the current European Union capital framework.  He also worked at the London School of Economics as a research assistant on several topics relating to financial law and regulation.  Sebastiaan received a degree in law from the University of Antwerp, a Masters of Law in European and International Law from the Catholic University of Leuven and a Masters of Law in Banking Law and Financial Regulation from the London School of Economics.  He lives in London.
