Jackie is an analyst on our financial and business services research team in Washington, DC. She primarily covers consumer finance, retirement, and higher education policy issues for our capital markets, private equity, and corporate clients. Outside of work, Jackie loves to travel, cook, and read–and she is wrapping up her goal of reading a book a week in 2022.
Why Capstone…
I wanted the opportunity to deepen my understanding of key financial services policy issues and understand the impact of policy movement at an industry and company-specific level. It felt like an exciting and challenging next step from the breadth of policy issues I was following at a higher level in my previous role.
Before joining…
Before Capstone, I worked for Thorn Run Partners, a leading DC-based lobbying firm, covering financial services policy issues.
Jackie’s average workday…
One thing I really enjoy about Capstone is that there really is no average workday to point to – the variety of clientele that we serve and the different capacity in which we work with them leads to a constantly changing workday. But I’d say that each day is some mix of reading from relevant news publications, client calls, working in PowerPoint and Excel, doing research for our current projects, and idea generation and note writing for our capital markets work.
The most enjoyable part of her role…
I enjoy that the work is extremely dynamic, both in the different issues I get to cover and in balancing the different needs of clients in our various work segments. It’s rewarding to get to play a part in helping our corporate clients build strategies, and at the same time, it’s really unique for me in the early years of my career to be able to take an issue I am not necessarily intimately familiar with and come to understand it at a very granular level after a mere few weeks during our private equity engagements.
An exciting project…
I spent the better part of three months this summer/fall working with a really interesting and innovative education technology corporate client on a variety of different timely ed-tech policy issues at the federal, state, and local levels. I really enjoyed the opportunity to deepen my understanding of education technology market, and it was very rewarding to be able to speak with the company’s c-suite executives as they discussed adjusting their strategies in real time based on our research.
Advice to someone considering a role at Capstone…
I think Capstone is a place where you can expect to be challenged and pushed in a manner that enables professional and personal growth, which is very rewarding. I’d encourage those that are considering joining or newly part of the team to be an eager learner.
